Electromagnetic clamps secure the pre-tensioned fibre at both ends. The fibre is then automatically drawn to gently reduce the crimp by a set amount. Once the fibre has been straightened to the predetermined trip level, the bottom clamp reverses direction to allow the fibre to relax. This approach ensures the crimp isn’t completely removed but stopped just in time. The embedded algorithm enables extrapolation up to the standard crimp removal value of 1 cN/tex. For practical handling, pretension is applied using lightweight paper weights. These light weights ensure that the pretensioning process doesn’t alter the crimp characteristics
